Kia ora, I’m Hamish, the motion designer behind Hammock Animation.
Based in New Zealand, I create story-driven animation, motion design, and motion graphics for studios, agencies, businesses, and independent clients.
I take ideas—sometimes half-baked, sometimes fully formed—and turn them into story-driven animation. Along the way, I get stuck into concept development, storyboarding, illustration, and shaping the overall look and feel of each project.
I’m a big fan of finding the core purpose of a piece and matching it with the right style, emotion, or informative beats. Whether it’s an explainer video, branded animation, social content, or a short film, the goal is always to create animation that’s engaging, clear, and memorable.
Over the years, I’ve worked across a wide range of animation and motion design projects, collaborating with studios, agencies, businesses, and independent clients in New Zealand and beyond. I’m always keen for the next one.
What I do
Motion design, animation, illustration, and visual storytelling—from the first sketch to the final frame. Whether it’s a brand film, explainer video, social content, or something a little different, I help turn ideas into engaging animation with a clear creative direction.
Storyboarding
Every great animation starts with a plan. I create storyboards that map out the narrative, pacing, and visual flow, turning rough ideas into clear sequences that keep everyone on the same page.
Illustration
Custom illustration gives every project its own personality. From simple graphic elements to detailed artwork, I create visuals that support the story and bring a distinctive style to the animation.
Animation
This is where everything comes to life. I create story-driven 2D animation and motion graphics that communicate ideas with clarity, rhythm, and a bit of character.
Art Direction
Strong animation starts with a strong visual direction. I shape the overall style, colour, composition, and creative approach to make sure every element works together as one cohesive piece.
Director
From concept development through to final delivery, I help guide projects from start to finish—bringing together story, design, animation, and collaboration to create work that connects with its audience.
